Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, and your obligations for the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will take priority.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- Drivers must be a minimum of 21 years old, though some vehicle categories may have different age restrictions, with extra fees applicable for those under 25. A valid full driving licence for the appropriate vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Valid payment details and a security deposit must also be provided, in addition to any other requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations for car hire can be completed via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Portishead location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All charges are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with transactions processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be generated and must be signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same state as when it was collected, except for standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as it was provided; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may result in additional charges, so please notify us as soon as possible if you expect to return the vehicle late. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or fees incurred during your rental, in addition to an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance coverage. Comprehensive information on coverage and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial responsibility. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for damages or losses up to the excess amount unless further insurance is purchased. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited uses of rental vehicle:
- Use of the vehicle for any unlawful activities is prohibited. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any actions that may pose a risk. Transporting hazardous materials is also not allowed. The vehicle must not be sub-let or operated by unauthorized drivers. Driving under the influence of substances is strictly forbidden. Additionally, the vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose, without exceeding passenger or weight limits. Travel outside of the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms can lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Portishead will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business related to your use of our services. Our liability for any claims is capped at the total rental fees paid in the past 12 months, excluding cases of negligence resulting in death or personal injury, or instances of fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the relevant courts.
10. Amendments to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
